Chirology Research Organisation (CRO) (050-437-NPO)

The Chirology Research Organisation (CRO), is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO). CRO endeavours to, through research and training, establish affordable counselling services, based on international methods and standards, utilising the features of the hands.

Background
There can be no doubt of the important role lay counsellors in every community play to ensure and maintain the psychological wellbeing of individuals. In South Africa, with its cultural diversity, the ability to provide an effective counselling service is even more challenging. Usually only provided when paid for, counselling services are often out of reach to the lower income groups.
It is well-known that there are no existing psychological personality theories developed from an African perspective on which counselling services can be based. Although culture, religion and other unique aspects of the client are taken into account in counselling sessions, clients often find it difficult to express their psychological state of mind. Not only because of a cultural barrier between the counsellor and the client but also because of language restraints. The Zulu language, for example, does not have a word for depression.
In the light of this the features of the hands, when interpreted, can be regarded as a universal language. Knowledge of this language can be a useful tool to assist the counsellor in empowering the client with the messages emanating from the brain and imprinted on the hands. Chirology has developed a unique approach that enables the counsellor to eliminate barriers from the counselling process.

Strategy To Empower Communities
A healthy community consists of healthy individuals. To achieve this requires commitment and a willingness to understand the needs and aspirations of every individual that identifies with the community. CRO believes that by empowering the individual with the knowledge of how to function at the peak of their potential, the community as a whole, can reap the benefits. Unlocking the power within is the point of departure and a healthy, progressing community the ultimate destination. To achieve this, CRO is committed to training.

Training
The training provided by CRO aims to achieve the following:

Educating The Public
Chirology is not only a virtually unknown discipline, but is often also associated with palmistry. This association, unfortunately, almost always leads to negative perceptions. The superstitions and occult connotations that accompany palmistry tarnish the professional and person-centred approach of Chirology. The challenge is therefore to educate the public at large on the basic principles of Chirology.

This is being achieved by the following initiatives:

Accredited Chirology Training
To ensure high standards of professionalism individuals will be prepared for the accreditation course presented by the governing body of Chirology in South Africa. CRO will provide students with the necessary theoretical background and funds to attend the course. Upon successful completion of the course CRO will further assist the qualified Chirologist to establish a sustainable counselling service in the community where they live. Continuous support and assistance will be available to all Chirologists - free of charge. Refreshing courses and monthly seminars, where updates on research will be discussed, are also accessible to Chirologists.

Establishing Research Enterprises
The ultimate success of CRO’s endeavours will be the research results made available to the scientific community. These research projects are aimed at establishing a reliable database that not only verifies the basic principles of Chirology, but also assist in constantly expanding the borders of the discipline.

Funding
As a non-profit organisation, CRO can only implement these projects if sufficient funds are available. The Law compels CRO to submit annual audited financial statements. Companies or individuals interested in making financial contributions are therefore assured that the funds are well managed and accounted for. The organisation also provides project plans on request to inform funders of how their money will be utilised.
